Back in 2002, I was only in junior high. And I have no access to internet stuff, so I was totally clueless where M2M is. After they performed on the MTV Asia Awards, and after "What You Do About Me" began playing on MTV SEA Asia, they've just disappeared and MTV asia never mention about their break up and i remember in late 2002 one of the Mtv Asia Vjs even saying "Its been such a long time we never heard about M2M" when one of the viewers requested m2m video to be playing. And for the next 3 years, I never heard about them again. In 2005, Marion just released 'Here I Am' in Asia. And for the first time, I saw her on MTV again, and I thought it was M2M new stuff, but no, she was just by herself promoting her solo album. I was happy back then. And in the interview, she never mentioned the breakup. One or two months later, for the first time, I went to the internet café because of some school homework stuff, and for the first time, I knew that they had already broken up 3 years earlier. I was sock! What was your reaction when you heard about the breakup back then?

I don't wanna be posting everyday, but these kind of posts touch my deepest feelings. I felt so sad at that time and talked about it with fans at the forum's chat and at the fanclub. I must say that I was a distant member of a mexican fanclub (m2m Mexico). Just got to kow them through their forum, but that's another story. In spite of M2M's break up, I knew they were gonna be part of my life forever. Their music was already inside my heart and is still there.

It doesn't matter when you discovered them. As a new fan you are more than welcome here. Also it's being able to reach out to newer fans is what music is all about too. And they don't make music these days like they used to anymore back then. So glad you found them even. 🥰

im not really a die hard fan since i was only 6 or 7 when they were become famous and the only time i see them is thru mtv, so i don't really know that they break up and the last music video of them that i saw on mtv was 'the day you went away' on 2003 before mtv move to cable tv in our country and since growing up being poor we can't afford cable tv. i only knew Marion since i have a classmate with the same name and my older schoolmates talks about Marion all the time when they read 'song hits' (it's a book in my country where all of the lyrics and chords of popular song get publish every month, there are also some music trivia and copy sheet of song you can put on the composer of nokia phone that time).I think it was way back in the mid 2000 when Marion became celebrity VJ of the month in our local music channel and I wondered why she's the only one. Can't really remembered who told me that they break up and when. I remember seeing a video before 2010 where Marion singing 'the day you went away'on a piano and i think that confirm me that they really break up.
Growing up listening to Linkin Park and some emo bands in the early 2010 i always listen to M2M songs when i get tired listening to rock music since it gave me nostalgia. During pandemic nostalgia hit me so hard listening to the song of early 2000 and when i play M2M songs again i got a curiosity to what happened to them. So I've search video and wiki article about their break up. I feel sadden when i discovered that they were not on good terms when they disbanded and didn't post about M2M or their past anymore.
sorry for my long story

I must have been late to the party when I heard. I don't recall much but I might have seen news on a random M2M fan site that their tour with Jewel had been cancelled despite there still being a few more shows to do left. To me that felt like a slap in the face, and pretty bad news. It was the dead silence after that especially from Marit (I spent considerable time on her Webboards) that basically gave this story not such a great ending. But good things came to an end. Not without more good things happening. Most of all I did miss having a supporting online community of people M2M had brought together through their music. It did and will - I trust - continue to make a difference. I have respect for their grit and their calm but firm death grip on their mission and vision as musicians. I am proud of how both of them carried on creating despite all the nonsense being thrown at them (just like how so many other artists in the US had to go through at that time, and still are). With what Marit has on her hands now - her very own record label, what's going to stop these two now? Times have changed and M2M literally has the power to go as high and as low as they want to go. No more trying to be "good enough" for anything or anyone. I'm glad for the decades of time they took to heal, pick up the pieces, move at their own pace, and then decide how to get to where they are now. Something I am learning to do for myself too.

I don't remember if M2M's breakup really coincided with what I'm about to share here or if it's a false memory. Here in Germany, getting M2M CDs was not always easy. I was about to order The Big Room from Amazon, I believe. For some reason, I hesitated. I read about the breakup later, on Marit's message board. For some reason, things got messy with ordering CDs, and I could suddenly only order The Big Room as an expensive Australia import from Amazon. Not sure whether I went through with that or got the CD later, but it was one of those famous "Truman Show" moments that I have in my life where everything seems to fall apart as soon as I decide to do something and everything seems to evolve around the idea of making things more complicated for me, in this case, enjoying my favourite music.

Well said, Ira! I think when it comes to that, these are better times to be an artist in a way it allows one to be more authentic without having to dance around some publisher trying to make them happy. It would be sooo cool if they could make some new stuff, I would be very curious to know what they would sound like in 2024. I was late to the party with finding out. I basically discovered M2M right after they split up. They had both announced to go solo I believe, but they hadn't put out anything yet. Both their own websites were already up. So my disappointment was short-lived, haha. "OMG I really like this! Oh... they broke up already. Guess I'll follow them solo". It was like that for me. I feel so sorry for the people who had to go through that huge disappointment! That must have been tough!
